Carolyn Mandracchia is a multimedia artist working primarily in book art, fiber art, performance and sculpture.

Much of their work deals with perception of the self, as the physical body stands in for our assumptions of gender and social constructs that are related to gender disassociation. Specific themes that are common in the work are performance of gender and sexual identity, and the relationship between physical and mental health.

There is always an underlying focus on the idea of ambiguity; that one does not have to define themselves by certain labels, and this limits the ways in which we are able to express ourselves. It illustrates the feeling of constantly being torn in different directions, especially in an age where technology distorts how we view and interact with those around us.

Carolyn is living and working in Philadelphia, PA.
